Motivation Is the Key
It helps to have a vision of some kinda focus to keep up your motivation. Come up with a picture of what you want to look like, feel like, or be like. Maybe conjure up a sports or movie hero. Nolan Ryan was throwing fireballs well into his forties while guys half his age had long ago dreamed up excuses for quitting baseball. Satchel Paige was serving up curveballs to major-league batters in his sixties.
One method of priming your motivation is to relate your newfound commitment to a part of you that was once active. Think of it as going back to gym again, when you got to turn your back on your math teacher and have fun at school for a change. Despite eternally sweaty gym clothes and cold locker rooms, gym was a welcome break for most of us. Remember this wonderful part of your life when you could really be male?
It's probably especially helpful to focus on what you weighed at the end of high school. Maybe the most realistic notion is getting yourself within 10 to 20 pounds of what you weighed in those golden years.
Conjure up all the positive reasons for working out. For example:
Exercise increases the speed at which food is metabolized. It sets your engine idle a bit higher. You can eat more yet wear it less.
Exercise activates your body during awake periods, and then tuckers you out for a deeper, more consistent sleep.
Exercise helps your body avoid the ravages of chronic health problems such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
Exercise builds self-confidence, improves the ability to relax, and fights depression. It makes you feel better about yourself. You're doing something instead of veging out in front of the TV or relying on one too many cocktails to help you settle down after the day.
Exercise makes you look better. And when you look better, people tend to hold you in higher esteem.
Exercising can make you a more exciting lover. Hey, what are women attracted to? Sensitivity and caring are at the top of the list, but also up there are self-confidence and good looks. 'Nuff said.
